presidents combined. and when mr. romney suggested that half of the green energy companies given stimulus funds had failed, that's only true in 3 is half of about 30. there was that sense also, that the president just didn't really want to be there. it was hard to get a fierce sense of urgency from the president on wednesday night. yes, it did look bad. all the rope-a-dope wednesday morning metaphors couldn't have changed how bad it looked. there is one thing you could say about the first debate, its with a good old-fashioned policy debate, one that had each candidate offering complications recitations of policy and policy consequences. >> i'm concerned the path we're on has been unsuccessful. the president has a view, similar to the view he had when he ran four years ago, a bigger government, spending more, taxing more, regulating more, if you will, trickle-down government would work. that's not the right answer for america. >> the approach that governor romney is talking about is the same sales pitch that was made in 2001 and 2003. and we ended up with the slowest job growth in 50 years
prices, on debt management, on energy and compare that to the vision and the ideas for the future that mitt romney has. it's very important. the last couple weeks there's been a little bit of a movement for the president. but listen, speeches don't create jobs. rhetoric doesn't create jobs. good ideas do. and the president, despite his efforts, has failed to help the american people get back to work and i think mitt romney has better ideas. that's what this debate will be about. >> business crill crystal and o republicans have questioned whether mitt romney has been specific about his ideas. here's paul ryan on fox news sunday. >> lowering tax rates by broadening the tax base works. and you can -- >> but i have to -- you haven't given me the math. >> i don't have the time -- it would take me too long to go through all of the math. let me say it this way, you can lower tax rates by 20% across the board, by closing loopholes and still have preferences for the middle class for things like charitable deductions for home purchases, for health care. >> where is the math? and is mitt rom

in denver as were those great supporters of ours yesterday and that was a magnificent event. a lot of energy. we have a great organization in colorado. we are in wisconsin yesterday. they're fired up. they're going to work very hard. obviously, you know, we'll take some lessons out of that first debate. i think it was remarkable by the way that the first, other than some pleasantries the first words out of governor romney's mouth were untrue saying he didn't have a $5 trillion tax cut. we've seen the campaign as not just one moment, one day. we've had a consistency to it. a case we're mayking that the president has the right pathway for the country and the middle klatt. governor romney would be a return, the trickle down economies that failed the middle class and failed the country. there is obviously an important debate next week between our vice president and paul ryan. we have another debate in 11 days. we look forward to continuing to make the case. >> you used the words i think dishonest or not making an honest argument. you just did it again. do you believe that mitt romney is intentio
